Monumental Day 30 of the 30 Day Song Challenge – the last, the ultimate song. Oh how I have dreamed of this day…! Although as much as I have struggled to keep up with the days, I have really enjoyed the month – and the whole process to be honest. Any day spent with music, is a GOOD day.
So, without further ado…
Day 30 – A Song You Loved About this Time Last Year
A song especially for my dear friend, Jen, who is also doing this challenge:
Florence + The Machine – You’ve Got The Love
We saw Florence live at the Laneway Festival in Brisbane (early Feb 2010) – complete with massive harp on stage, of course. Although it was admist somewhat fuzzy surroundings being the last performance of the night – for some moreso than others
Although this is a cover song, Florence absolutely kills it. Check out this unbelievable version – live from Glastonbury.
Shortly after seeing Florence + the Machine (+ the Harp) @ Laneway, I was inspired to get the album, Lungs – and still love listening to it.

The penultimate song of the 30 Day Song Challenge – Day 29
And being Mother’s Day, it’s a fitting tribute to recall some of my Mum’s favourite music when I was growing up.
I still recall the covers and songs of most of my mum’s vinyls from the 70s & 80s.
Things like:
- Marcia Hines – I’ve Got The Music In Me, Somethings Missing (In My Life)
- Hot Chocolate – Everyone’s a Winner, You Sexy Thing
- Dr Hook – Sylvia’s Mother, Walk Right In (which incidentally, I used to make our pet dog dance to)
Although there were a couple of other family favourites:
I Hope Your Chooks Turn Into Emus (& They Peck Your Dunny Down): Could only find a sample online, but it is a weird yet funny song
But the stand out song of my childhood would have to be:
Santa Never Made it to Darwin
- sung by my Mum
The family version will always win hands down, but for this challenge, here’s the original version by Bill & Boyd – with footage of Cyclone Tracy‘s 25 December 1974 sad devastation of Darwin.
