Felix Riebl - Into The Rain

Felix out on his own

Poor pun I know… Not even original, I’m sure. Perhaps though if you’re unaware that Felix Riebl is a co-founder and one lead man of The Cat Empire, then I may have just gotten away with it…

Either way, I’ve good news. Actually, great news!

Felix has a solo LP coming out 1 July, Into The Rain.  His first single, Wide Open Rivers, is the start of something beautiful. It was debuted on Triple J’s Home & Hosed in April.

A promo EP has made its way onto the internets, more specifically YouTube if you want to search him. Three singles (including Wide Open Rivers) are on there. Can’t wait for the LP. It’s going to be Awesome! That’s right – a capital ‘A’.

Now’s your chance. Felix heading out on his Into The Rain tour, supported by Ben Salter (The Gin Club) during August. Putting new meaning into Hot August Nights…

Bigsound 2011

It seems to be the year for 10th birthday celebrations.  Think The Cat Empire, The Herd

Well, the organisers of BIGSOUND – and BIGSOUND Live are elbow deep into the organisation of their 10th yearly events as well!

BIGSOUND: 6,7, 8 Sept

BIGSOUND is a 3-day music industry networking who’s who, with major national and international speakers and guests.

BIGSOUND has an undeniable natural momentum,” said BIGSOUND programmer Graham Ashton. “That, along with the calibre of artists we are attracting leaves us confident the 10th anniversary will prove to be a unique gathering of the tribe for the music community both locally and internationally. The speakers in a our first announcement are certainly a testament to this.

Check out the list of speakers for Bigsound so far. If you want to attend, then read about tickets & registration – get in before 6 July for a discounted price.

Now this is more my thing… This year’s BIGSOUND Live is spread over two nights and eight venues throughout Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.  If Adalita Bigsound & Bigsound Live celebrating 10 yearsyou love your music, it’s a great way to see some of your hot favourites on stage (and in person!!) – and suss out some new music as well. The perfect after work mini-festival – and it’s a fantastic price too, especially considering you get access to 80 bands & artists.

I stumbled across it two years ago – and it’s now a staple on my musical calendar. The only potential downside is that with some of the gigs attended more by industry peeps than fans, the atmosphere can be a little weird. So, get behind your favourite artists and show them some love!

Last year was a sell out, so don’t rest on your piano stools.
