Regurgitator

‘Gurge putting out new tunes in new ways

I think it has been at least 9 years since I first dragged my boyfriend kicking and screaming (just a little) to a Regurgitator show at Shepherd’s Bush in London. Little did he know it was to be the first of many gigs I would drag him along to. At least, these days he actually enjoys live music. Back then, he was just trying to get to ‘get to know me’…

And thankfully, the ‘Gurge did not disappoint. Just like any time I have seen them play.

The Brisbane crew go a lot further back than 9 years though, winning their first ARIA awards in 1996 with their first full-length album, Tu Plang.  Both that album and their next, Unit, made Triple J’s Hottest 100 albums of all time (at # 44 and 10 respectively).

Superhappyfuntimesfriends or Superhappyfuntimefriends

Is it a typo? or?

Their latest album, Superhappyfuntime(s)friends, may or may not have 2x s in it, but either way is due out 5 August.

They did previously suggest they wouldn’t be putting out their music in a full traditional album format again, and although you will be able to get it in CD format, plus vinyl and digital download, they’ve thrown a couple of interesting little curve balls in too.

You can buy it on cassette. Ok, cool. A little different, BUT you can also buy it on pin. Yep – a colourful, wearable badge or pin, approx 2cm across, that you can plug your earphones into. Complete with EQ and all. Even if just for keepsake value, it’s worth checking out. For shizzle!

Do you ‘like their old stuff better than their new stuff’?

Here’s a taster.  “One stand-out song, All Fake Everything, starts off like an Imagine-esque lament to the bad luck of rappers, before switching into a blazing hip-hop track.”
